The essence of the one is Purity, which born into a body runs on the passion of anger, or more accurately, resentment. Resentment is their chief feature and therefore the need arises to be seen as a good boy or girl.

This is the only type who's passion and avoidance are both the same, being anger. Anger in itself is not so much the problem, but more that it is repressed. This leads to continual frustration and dissatisfaction, with both themselves and the world. The way back to Self and to dissolve suffering is through the holy idea of perfection by the holy path of serenity.

Sinning Saint - I Do The Right Thing

A perfectionist, conservative, controlled lover, enjoying same sex routines and dares to be wild outside of their familiar environment. A rigid outlook in sex results in covert behavior.

Sex is conditional on working hard, being reliable, doing the right thing in order to earn the right sex and expect the same of their own partner.

Wing Nines and Twos and stretch/release points Four and Seven can all relate.

Paternal idealist persona plays the authority/teacher to make the world a better place.

I am a good partner and I love making love correctly.

Sexual frustration: my self improvement of skills are not being appreciated by my lover.

In relationship, these types are compliant and need to be in service to others. The seek to obey the rules and meet the demands and expectations of their environment. Even if only subtle, they tend to become authority figures possessing a sense of being better than others. For instance, when ones enter a room they instantly see what's sloppy and what is needed for improvement.

Dichotomy is Rigid/Sensitive, where on one side they appear emotionally sensitive and the other militaristic.

Ones tend to be sexually repressed. Having a resistance to aggression, they are often seen by others as highly self-controlled, even rigid, despite their contrary inner experience.

As an internal anger point, the experience for the One is like sitting on a cauldron of desire and passion, that they had better keep a lid on or they will regret later.

In childhood the soul was forced to shut down and believe that to make mistakes was not okay. The idealisation then became I am righteous.

The competent type who's main emphasis is to be correct, sensible and structured. They tend to focus on improving standards, improving themselves and knowing the rules.

They resist the affects of instinctual drives by consciously not giving in to them, or alternatively, by expressing them freely.

They manage their feelings through repression and denial. Feelings are thus channeled into the activity of getting things done perfectly.

Feelings are also physical, held rigidly in the body.

I am righteous.

Ones want to work with the system, and in trying to  be "good" they tend to get irritated with those who disrespect the rules (such as the 8).

Lesson 263 of "A Course in Miracles" Jesus

My holy vision sees all things as pure.

Father, Your Mind created all that is, Your Spirit entered into it, Your Love gave life to it. And would I look upon what You created as if it could be made sinful? I would not perceive such dark and fearful images. A madman's dream is hardly fit to be my choice, instead of all the loveliness with which You blessed creation; all its purity, its joy, and its eternal, quiet home in You.

And while we still remain outside the gate of Heaven, let us look on all we see through holy vision and the eyes of Christ. Let all appearances seem pure to us, that we may pass them by in innocence, and walk together to our Father's house as brothers and the holy Sons of God.

AND

Lesson 347 of "A Course in Miracles" Jesus

Anger must come from judgment. Judgment is the weapon I would use against myself, to keep the miracle away from me.

Father, I want what goes against my will, and do not want what is my will to have. Straighten my mind, my Father. It is sick. But You have offered freedom, and I choose to claim Your gift today. And so I give all judgment to the One You gave to me to judge for me. He sees what I behold, and yet He knows the truth. He looks on pain, and yet He understands it is not real, and in His understanding it is healed. He gives the miracles my dreams would hide from my awareness. Let Him judge today. I do not know my will, but He is sure it is Your Own. And He will speak for me, and call Your miracles to come to me.

Listen today. Be very still, and hear the gentle Voice for God assuring you that He has judged you as the Son He loves.

One - A Deeper Look into the reformer

Advice for the One: "If you are asked to a dirty place to sit, you will not like it, and want to leave. Similarly, parmatma (god) will not sit well in a heart filled with sins and bad habits. Keep your heart clean and cultivate inner purity to experience your God nature rather than mental disturbances."

The Purity of the One fixation is the summit of the mountain few can attain. The white snow glistens on the mountain peak. They judge right action in every thought and deed, churning judgement and anger from within from the sphincter to the crown of the head. Just as the intense compression of coal creates a diamond, the life of the one goes through a similar process and cycle with every revolutionary idea they have come to bestow upon us if they are able to transmute that anger and judgement into insightful diamond clear vision of where we could potentially head for a brighter future.

Ones struggle with anger and turn in upon themselves finding fault with everything both in themselves and in others.

These are visionaries and missionaries ushering in the change needed for a brighter world.

They are rational idealists and perfectionists, with an acute sense of right and wrong driving their mental and emotional systems to boiling point. Ones strive for higher values at great personal sacrifice, overcoming moral adversity and self sacrifice in order to shine the way forward. They are history makers, visionaries and activists who tend to leave their comfort zones to answer the call for bringing extraordinary change to the world, or at the very least to reduce the disorder they assess within in the world around them. (Sonja Watson Sunaina.)

The following Ones have inspired huge numbers of people towards a joined goal to lift them from a density they are having to endure:

In 1965, at 69, A.C. Bhativedanta Swami Prabhupada left Calcutta on a cargo steamship for New York to preach Krishna Consciousness. He emerged as a major influential figure in the Western counterculture, initiating thousands of young Americans and founding the ISKCON movement that soon swept across the entire world.

Gandhi left behind his wife, family, and life as a successful lawyer to become an itinerant advocate of Indian independence and non-violent resistance to lead a successful campaign for India's independence from British rule, and in turn inspired a movement for civil rights and freedom across the world.

Nelson Mandela led his government towards dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation. So dedicated was his vision to free his people that he led a sabotage campaign that brought about his imprisonment for 27 years. His life legacy was his commitment to bringing peace to the black majority, and give the black majority the right to vote in national and local elections. The suffering he endured to achieve his vision is remarkable.

Abraham Lincoln, 16th US president, led the nation through the greatest moral, constitutional and political crises - the American Civil War (1861-1865). He preserved the Union, abolished slavery, bolstered the federal government and modernised the US economy.

Martin Luther King, an American Christian minister, became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. During his life he advanced civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, and was inspired by his Christian beliefs and by his enneagram One fixation brother, Mahatma Gandhi.

In 2011, Osama Bin Laden fled with 8 family members to a cave complex of the White Mountains at Tora Bora, Afghanistan, on the country's eastern border, and survived 10 days on minimal rations. Scapegoated or not, as the one responsible for 9/11, a One is capable of feeling rich even on frugal means.

Martyr, Catholic saint, and military leader, Joan of Arc left her peasant village in France to lead the French army in overthrowing the English in the Hundred Year War to restore the throne. Although burnt at the stake at the age of 19, she was later exonerated and declared a national symbol of France. Heroine of France "Maid of Lorraine", was considered a Catholic saint.

Raoul Wallenburg left his comfortable middle-class life to work for the protection of thousands of European Jews from invading Nazis during the war.

Each of these personalities have educated and inspired millions by their legacy of high ideals and activism within their socio political/cultural demographic and beyond.

Ones feel they have to justify their actions to themselves and others, keeping themselves from behaving contrary to their convictions. Being purity, they seek an objective truth and rationale and are thus compelled towards activism. Instinctive and passionate for their convictions, they use judgment to control and direct themselves and their actions.

The experience of being in a body as purity is constant churn between an inner disparity due to their innate need to stay true to their principles. As a result they resist the affects of instinctual drives, by consciously not giving in to them or expressing them freely. This creates suffering in the form of repression, resistance, and aggression (including sexually) while being seen by others as highly self-controlled, even rigid, despite their contrary inner experience.

As an internal anger point, the experience for the One is like sitting on a cauldron of desire and passion, that they must “keep the lid on” lest they regret it.

Ones believe in strictness to perfect themselves, but end up creating their own personal hell. Ones disagree that God created good, making it difficult to trust their inner guidance or to trust in life, and instead they rely heavily on their superego. This is a learned voice from childhood, guiding them toward “the greater good” they so passionately seek.

When Ones have gotten completely entranced in their personality, there is little distinction between them and a severe, unforgiving voice. Separating genuine strengths and limitations is considered growth for a One and can therefore lead them towards extreme diets and disciplines.
