Type Nine - The Unifying Field & Peacemaker

Agreeable, Receptive, Reassuring, Complacent, Self-Effacing

Easy going, accepting, trusting, and stable. Mostly optimistic, supportive, and creative. They go along with others to keep the peace. They want a smooth and conflict-free life. They tend to be complacent, and oversimplify problems to keep themselves from disturbance. Inertia and stubbornness follow.

At their Best: they are indomitable and all-embracing, bringing people together and healing conflicts.

The essence of the Nine is Awareness which born into a body runs a basic fear of loss of connection and fragmentation.

The essence of awareness constricted by a body runs a desire to be at peace, which depletes to neglectfulness.

It thus runs on laziness and sloth. Despite activities and accomplishments, a desire to be unaffected by life arises from an unwillingness to arise with the fullness of one's vitality to fully engage with life. The chief feature is therefore indolence

While all other passions make waves, this one is the lack of waves. The holy idea is divine love and the holy path is right action.

The Sensual Sweetheart – That Was Great For You Wasn't It?

Relaxed and accepting – happy to please (if it makes you happy). Sensuous and uncomplicated, yet fussing about inconsequential issues, means they forget their own arousal in the process. Wonderfully healing with a vivid imagination to add extra spice to make your day go better.

Nine's Retreat: through day dreaming or losing sense of self, merging with partner as another way of retreating, to a point of not knowing their own sexual needs and desires. Using sex to retreat and lose themselves in the physicality of sex but avoid showing up emotionally or mentally.

Wing Eight and One and stretch/release points Three and Six can all relate.

Love Type: Maternal – nurturers of others, but they lack the ability to nurture themselves when not integrated.

Relationship Belief: "Whatever pleases you works for me. I don't see a problem.”

Sexual Frustration: "I'm happy with the way things are. Why do you keep pressuring me into changing the way we have sex. Don't ask me about positions – I don't have answers."

Dichotomy is social/antisocial

Type Nine will never leave you. They merge, but never leave.

In childhood, the soul was forced to shut down and believe that to assert oneself was not okay. The idealization to compensate this then became "I am comfortable."

A positive outlook type who emphasizes the good qualities of others, their environment and the world in general.

They avoid seeing the problems with their loved ones and the environment, as well as their own lack of development.

They have problems with feeling overwhelmed by their own needs, and those of others, and they do not want to deal with either.

"I am comfortable."

These are the positive outlook types who have difficulty by adopting a positive attitude, reframing disappointments in an optimistic light with emphasis towards the bright and uplifting. They build morale and enjoy helping others feel good so they too can feel good.

It is difficult for them to face the dark side of themselves or anything painful and they have trouble balancing their own needs with that of others. They tend to focus upon both self and others, and thus have trouble adequately fulfilling either.

Lesson 109 of 'A Course in Miracles' Jesus

I rest in God.

We ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world's appearances. We ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. We ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow. And we have the thought that will answer our asking with what we request.

"I rest in God." This thought will bring to you the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness you seek. "I rest in God." This thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is. Here is the end of suffering for all the world, and everyone who ever came and yet will come to linger for a while. Here is the thought in which the Son of God is born again, to recognize himself.

"I rest in God." Completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of God. There is no suffering it cannot heal. There is no problem that it cannot solve. And no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in God.

This is the day of peace. You rest in God, and while the world is torn by winds of hate your rest remains completely undisturbed. Yours is the rest of truth. Appearances cannot intrude on you. You call to all to join you in your rest, and they will hear and come to you because you rest in God. They will not hear another voice than yours because you gave your voice to God, and now you rest in Him and let Him speak through you.

In Him you have no cares and no concerns, no burdens, no anxiety, no pain, no fear of future and no past regrets. In timelessness you rest, while time goes by without its touch upon you, for your rest can never change in any way at all. You rest today. And as you close your eyes, sink into stillness. Let these periods of rest and respite reassure your mind that all its frantic fantasies were but the dreams of fever that has passed away. Let it be still and thankfully accept its healing. No more fearful dreams will come, now that you rest in God. Take time today to slip away from dreams and into peace.

Each hour that you take your rest today, a tired mind is suddenly made glad, a bird with broken wings begins to sing, a stream long dry begins to flow again. The world is born again each time you rest, and hourly remember that you came to bring the peace of God into the world, that it might take its rest along with you.

With each five minutes that you rest today, the world is nearer waking. And the time when rest will be the only thing there is comes closer to all worn and tired minds, too weary now to go their way alone. And they will hear the bird begin to sing and see the stream begin to flow again, with hope reborn and energy restored to walk with lightened steps along the road that suddenly seems easy as they go.

You rest within the peace of God today, and call upon your brothers from your rest to draw them to their rest, along with you. You will be faithful to your trust today, forgetting no one, bringing everyone into the boundless circle of your peace, the holy sanctuary where you rest. Open the temple doors and let them come from far across the world, and near as well; your distant brothers and your closest friends; bid them all enter here and rest with you.

You rest within the peace of God today, quiet and unafraid. Each brother comes to take his rest, and offer it to you. We rest together here, for thus our rest is made complete, and what we give today we have received already. Time is not the guardian of what we give today. We give to those unborn and those passed by, to every Thought of God, and to the Mind in which these Thoughts were born and where they rest. And we remind them of their resting place each time we tell ourselves, "I rest in God."

9 - A deeper look into "The Big ol' Bear"

Nines have a similar mood to bears. They enjoy the comfort of a peaceful and tranquil environment, a bit like Winnie the Pooh with his jar of honey, or like Baloo from the Jungle Book.

However, underneath they are more like a gorilla. The tranquility is where you will find them but once agitated, very swiftly, they could easily tear you from limb to limb.

At the head of the Enneagram where there is more essence; consciousness, awareness, wholly present, being. Buddha; mind in stillness. Buddha Nature; deeply connected. Omnipresent. Unmoving. A mountain of presence. A rock. Uluru. Yet from stillness into movement is like a dormant volcano where the power of an inferno bubbles deep within.

Laziness runs the form. But we are not the form. They generally have a large and heavy size, which is hold to a level of unconsciousness which shows up as a sluggishness that can bring about a tendency towards clumsiness, but not always. They can trip over something upon entry into a new environment or accidentally break the chair they sit on and laugh jovially at their mishap. In a teddy bear demeanor of a certain discomfort, they are immediately able to laugh off life with a jovial silliness.

Type Nine, however, is not always large in form. The self preservation subtype Nine tends to be more thin and rather tight in the jaw. The rage is more evident. Due to being in such a thin form it is harder to conceal and so it bleeds out of them with an intense uneasiness, more or less so given the circumstance they find themselves in. Due to having no layers where the sluggishness can store, the bubbling rage festering underneath the surface is more evident and is generally warded off with a quirky sense of humour. This can easily be detected in comedians such as Jim Carey, Bill Burr and Carl Baron.

The other type Nines (sexual and social) have simply employed more coping mechanisms in various forms of self narcotizing, such as a preoccupation with some addiction such as screens, drinking, or collecting leisurely comforts like bikes, gym or farm equipment, surf boards – whatever takes their fancy. Alcoholics Anonymous is a Nine fixation organization.

The sluggishness is an antidote for their subtle awareness of the rage they are stewing in, and in order to avoid the discomfort of what could potentially happen should they allow it to overcome them, some variation of self narcotizing is their way to subdue the rage rather than allowing it to overcome them.

A type Nine client shared that he spends his spare time cage fighting as a means of tempering his rage. Another shared that he participates in extreme martial arts with the Tokyo Riot Police.

Awareness in itself is awake and conscious. Individuated into a form and constrained within the limitations of a body harbours the faulty perception of an ego. Not knowing what it is, awareness senses a shaky and conflicted state.

Sensing this discrepancy, awareness is in conflict with itself and thus begins the compulsion for an endless search for comfort.

As the form does indeed need to be maintained in order to function in the world, a preoccupation with food, dirt (keeping clean) and money becomes their focus and they therefore tend to be very good at making money. At the head of large companies and establishments in the position of CEO is generally a Nine making sound business decisions. They know how to monopolize the empire and keep everything functioning, whether for profit or for humanitarian motives. They are at the foundation of most arenas, able to focus on the big things in all its greatness.

While they do indeed work hard, the laziness that runs their form always maintains a level of unconsciousness, because the awareness of a separate self (the ego) evokes rage. That rage can only be tempered by electing to go to sleep, which maintains these dense layers of sluggishness.

When work and leisure come to a standstill, you will find the sleepy bear in his den, slothing on the couch, hidden away from the world of chaos, establishment and empire.

This slumber and avoidance of discomfort is not entirely peaceful, as Nine does not know true rest. Don’t wake the sleeping volcano or chaos will reign. But wake it must.

The choice to either sleep and maintain the sluggishness, or to awaken from the trance, is what every Nine is contending. In the slider of exemplar personality types and images of Nine characteristics many spiritually awakened Nines are also represented as avatars to assist you further if you are a type Nine.

Allow the rage. Watch it and one will not only know the difference between rest and laziness, but one will experience it and awaken.
